Crypto margin calculator
At the EU retail limit of 2:1, a crypto CFD needs half its full value as margin. This shows the margin and the exposure behind it.
Margin is a deposit, not the most you can lose: profit and loss are calculated on the full position value. EU and UK retail positions are closed out when equity falls to 50% of required margin.
Type your broker’s current price. Conversions into your account currency use delayed exchange rates. Results are estimates; your broker’s contract specification is what counts.
How it works
- Position value = lots × units per lot × price, converted into your account currency.
- Required margin = position value ÷ leverage (2:1 = 50%).
Questions
Why is crypto leverage so low?
ESMA set 2:1 for crypto CFDs because prices are far more volatile than for currencies or indices; a 50% move against a 2:1 position would wipe out the margin.
