Crypto position size calculator

Crypto moves fast, so size first. Enter how much of your account you are prepared to lose and how far away your stop is in dollars; the calculator returns the position size.

Amount at risk€50.00

Brokers round to their minimum step, so round down. The stop is not a cap on losses: gaps and slippage can fill it at a worse price, and crypto moves 24/7, including weekends.

Type your broker’s current price. Conversions into your account currency use delayed exchange rates. Results are estimates; your broker’s contract specification is what counts.

How it works

  • Amount at risk = balance × risk %.
  • Units = amount at risk ÷ stop distance in USD (converted into your account currency).
  • Lots = units ÷ units per lot (usually one coin; check your broker).

Questions

Why can I lose more than the planned amount?

Crypto trades every day of the week, and moves of several per cent in minutes happen. A stop becomes a market order when it triggers and can fill far from its level.

What leverage applies?

For EU retail clients ESMA caps leverage on crypto CFDs at 2:1. In the UK, crypto derivatives cannot be sold to retail clients at all.
